So yesterday I read this

So yesterday I read this little article about Texas appealing a gay divorce because they don't recognize gay civil unions. whatthefuk??? There's a man there named Greg Abbott I believe and he pretends to be qualified to be the attorney general. To Mr. Abbott, I say go get a life. Aren't there any murderers to go prosecute? Perhaps all the queer people should educate him...

Sometimes I really wonder where our country is going to be in the world after this war... We've pissed a bunch of countries off with Mr. Bush's big mouth bully attitude. This new "Bush doctrine" is no more than a how to bully document. So after the war when we need help with the "other" war (war on Terrorism), where will our allies be? Who will be our allies? I think we're stepping on our own feet with this new doctrine, and it's going to start spelling the end of the USA if we don't watch how far our president takes it. The road of action may end up being a lonely and deadly road.

Sick of SPAM

In the past 4 days, I've gotten over 3MB of SPAM mail in my main e-mail box. That's just sickening.

It's been a long week.

It's been a long week. Worked 11 days straight, and tomorrow will be my fourth night in a row. Between that and a few Board meetings, I've been busy every night since Sunday. And of course the war is on now. I don't even want to go there. Read that The Supreme Court heard the sodomy case.. of course I read some of the comments by some of the less educated (to put it mildly) justices and I screamed. How does one equate gay people having sex to rape? Just disgusts me. Even more sickening is that some of those justices will be there for another 20-30 years.

The conference was great, and I'm trying to apply some of the stuff I learned there. Working on creating new policies for The Pride Center. There's a committee of 5 of us, and I think we're making some good progress. Instead of making them sound all business-like, we're using principles of policy. Kinda an odd concept but it's working for us so far. Have another meeting next week. The last one lasted 4 and a half hours! An ad went out in the newsletter about Pride ArtsFest - I'm trying to get Jon to co-enter a photo exhibit. We'll see what we can come up with for that. I think it'd be fun.

Going to play around with Blogger for awhile now. Trying to get archives to work properly... fun fun..

This conference is SO incredible!

This conference is SO incredible! There is so much information to absorb here. I attended two workshops on non-profit fundraising and now have so many ideas of how we can implement everything. I know Melissa is going through the same thing - our minds are racing with all this info and ideas of how we can make The Pride Center a better place. We've been talking and brainstorming all night. We're so lucky to be here. The people presenting are such experts in their fields and have so much to tell us. Donna Red Wing is here for cryin' out loud! I just can't express how great this is!

Went downtown tonight and took some pictures, although most didn't turn out so great because it was kinda dark. I'm missing Jon and wish he could be here with me. In the meantime, I'm staying focused and having a wonderful time learning and talking with people from all over the country. It's just an awesome experience.

I'm in Denver, CO for the Gill Foundation's National Training Institute. The Pride Center sent Melissa and I here. Had a relatively uneventful journey out here besides the freezing rain on the way to Detroit. I'm totally stoked about this conference, and being here with Melissa. It's kinda interesting going on a trip somewhere with someone you don't know all that well, but we've talked about all kinds of stuff on the way here and we have the same viewpoint on all sorts of things. It's very refreshing to hang out and talk with someone who believes the same things about humanity that you do. It's almost like a ray of sunshine coming over the mountains out here as the sun sets out here. Denver is a really cool city - we walked down to this mall/walkway thing and ate at The Hard Rock Cafe. There's all kinds of cool shops and restaurants there - we'll likely be going back.

The conference starts tomorrow, and I'm excited to go to the seminars and learn all I can. Hopefully I can bring a lot of information back to The Pride Center.
