it fell out like that...

The excuse of the thief when caught with a knife trying to cut open a plastic package in my store... "My knife fell out of my pocket and it was already open!"

bad news at the door

| | Comments (0)

I was in bed when I heard the doorbell ring. I really had no idea that it was the end of the world at the door.

Fortunately for the bearer of this news I didn't make it to the door first, grandma did. The next things I hear are about how the end times are near because of all the horrible things happening in the world. [insert Bible verse] What a lovely message to deliver to someone at their home at 10am. They spoke a bit and Grandma was talking about how she isn't able to go to church anymore. From what I heard of it she missed being there on Sundays. So the visitor at the door spoke up about the horrible people in the world, and that's why the end is near. [insert Bible verse]

At this point I was angry. Instead of reacting to grandma's wish to be back with people in church with maybe an offer to help, or something about how Jesus still loves her, I hear a Bible verse that blasts just about everyone for how awful they are. How ironic. Not only is the world ending because of all the bad things happening, but there are many horrible people we can blame for it. (Gosh, I wonder who's to blame).

Where is God's message of love in this dialogue?

And the key words that would have caused a door to slam in her face were never spoken, but she's been invited to come back. Lord help her that I'm not here that day.

One week, smoke free...

Charlie on vacation

Our cat Ellie has this little toy that she's had since she was very little. His name is Charlie. When Ellie gets upset for some reason, Charlie ends up in the water bowl. He usually has to take a brief vacation to dry out...

no more big gay barn

   Busy weekend!
I opened both days at the store so no sleeping in for me - not unless you consider sleeping until 5am sleeping in. (In that case I don't want your job!) In the evenings we worked around the house - the yard finally dried out after out 3 inches of rain last week so we got to mow. I even painted some more of the shed. This time it's really burgundy instead of the pink that was not color-matched properly the last time we bought paint. The big gay barn is no more... We also got some mulch out which looks lovely, but it smells like a horse stable around here. I hope that goes away before we have my family down next weekend for dinner.
We're also getting ready for a wedding next weekend that we're taking pictures for. We're both a little anxious - we were taking some practice shots each evening at the same time the wedding will be at. Just want to get camera settings right and out of the way. J got a new monopod and flash, along with this diffuser for the flash that looks like a cross between a candy jar and a kippah. Apparently works pretty well, and you can have Skittles while you take pictures!

tornados, lightning, and cravings

| | Comments (0)

Good grief, I'm doing a terrible job of keeping up on this little blog.
Tonight at work was ... interesting. We had a tornado warning. The city sirens were going off and everything. Looking out the front windows was horrifying - the wind, rain, and lightning were crazy. Just a few miles to our west a community reported winds of up to 100mph. We had to make announcements that NWS had issued this warning and to go to this one wall in the building. Of course some people wanted to shop until they were blown away. A shopping addiction perhaps?
Speaking of addictions. I've been smoke free for 3 days and 16 hours. I quit on Monday morning and bought the patch that afternoon. The patch works surprisingly well - hardly any cravings or withdrawal symptoms when I'm using it. Rough day yesterday though while I wasn't wearing it. I was catching up on sleep so I didn't put it on - I'm told it gives you horrible nightmares. So I had a few cravings, but I'm insistent that I will quit this time! A little program on my computer tells me I've saved $13 already too! Even better...

There's so much I could say about this photo taken at the Cleveland Pride March. But I'll let you decide for yourself what to think...

10000 steps

Apparently I walk about 5 miles each day at work. That little pedometer is handy, but now I know why my feet hurt.

30 hours later

It's been a little while since I last posted here. A lot has been going on, and it will no doubt continue to be a busy month.
I've already logged about 30 hours of volunteer time with the community center, and I have no doubt that another 30 is coming quite easily. Between moving, events, meetings, and fundraising another $40k, it's all keeping me quite busy. We had a really awesome event last week. We had expected turnout to be around 50-75 people, and ended up with attendance of about 100! I also got a chance to meet many people from the community and talk with them about the new and exciting stuff that the center is working on.
Only 2 more weeks of class until this quarter is over. Then I have a whopping week long break. For some reason I was thinking that I had about a month off, and I was really looking forward to it. But its good to keep momentum going while you have it. Accounting III though? Ugh...
So interesting news of the week: Um, what was the 6/6/06 crap all about? It was covered on major news networks like it was news. When the 6 o'clock news is covering the freaking date I think theres a problem. And of course there's the senate voting to ban gay marriage to protect traditional marriage. How about banning divorce? I think that would work a bit better. Now we've covered immigrants, gays, and what will be next? Guns? Maybe flag burning...
