Rachel Maddow comments on how the NOAA had a report about global warming and hurricane strength but it was blocked. Guess what, the report confirmed there is a connection.

I'm irritated by some of the recent car commercials. Of course they're all playing on high gas prices, and they're bragging about how many of their cars get good mileage. Some of them brag about their "great" fuel mileage when it's actually just decent. I saw a commercial tonight for the Buick Lacerne that stated that it gets 28mpg on the highway. Is that good? Maybe it was in 1980...
I'm just saying that car companies don't seem to have made many strides in the fuel economy arena in the past few decades. Even some hybrid cars don't get spectacular mileage. In 1994 I bought a car that got almost 40mpg consistently. Over 10 years later, most cars on the road don't get that much out of a tank. Is it just me that finds that .. odd?

Happy 8th Birthday. How would we search without you?

Apparently, one can substitute personal lubricant for WD40. Who knew?
I just finished my last class of the summer quarter, and officially made it through my first year back to school. Cumulative GPA: 4.0! WooHoo!
On my way home from work tonight I was flipping through channels and landed on CNN for a few minutes. They were discussing how bizarre it was that there was no word about Britney's new baby. There were rumors that there were complications. There was the talk about how if a celebrity doesn't show their baby right away that people get suspicious. WHO gets suspicious? Who cares? I mean good for them, but truly, who needs all the details?
This week Cedar Point released the news that they're building a new coaster for next summer called Maverick. From the renderings and videos it looks like a really cool ride. The focus seems to be on the riding experience versus what many are used to from CP - the record-breaker.
Apparently Bob Dyer is used to that as well. From his column in todays Beacon Journal, it seems as if he's just kinda disgusted with the new coaster. With a sarcastic woo-hoo here, and a dollop of sarcasm there, Mr. Dyer makes more useless comments than actual news about the ride.
Bummer, I usually like Bob's columns...

Happy 40th Birthday Star Trek.
One would think that Pluto is actually leaving the solar system. The planet I mean, not the Disney character. On the Science Channel they're running a "bye bye to Pluto" thing one night this week. As if since it's no longer classified as a planet, it's actually going to leave. I wonder if Xena is going to go with it. Ohhh.. the lesbians would be so upset.
CBS News actually got crappy and started calling Pluto "dinky." What's with that? It's not like after Dan Rather left we started calling CBS "petty." The CBS story also noted that, "The shift will have the world's teachers scrambling to alter lesson plans just as schools open for the fall term." Is this really such a scandal? Are teachers really "scrambling," running through the halls of the school crying out for help?
