I thought sexual cleansing was something like Summer's Eve until I read about sexual cleansing in Iraq. Apparently the Iraqi government sanctions a group that kills queer folks, and the US doesn't seem to have any issues with this. "What is happening today in Iraq, Hili said, is one of the most organized and systematic sexual cleansings in the history of the world." (365gay.com)
You know, I really don't know what to think about this. I mean, the whole thing is such an utter catastrophe that queer cleansing is just one more thing to add to the list of crap that's gone wrong. And just like the rest of the mess, the US doesn't seem to have much success fixing any of it.

Apparently in Moscow the gay pride parade has been banned once again. In addition, a senior city official has said that homosexuality is like alcoholism. (mosnews.com) So I propose a 12-step program for the HOmOsExUAls:
1. We admitted we were powerless over being queer - that our lives had become over glamorous.
2. Came to believe that dance music is a greater power than ourselves and could restore us to sanity
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of the Fab 5 as if we understood them
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of our porn collection
5. Admitted to ourselves and to another human being the exact day we chose to be queer, or can't you remember?
6. Were entirely ready to have Jerry Falwell remove all these defects of character
7. Humbly asked Cher to remove our shortcomings
8. Made a list of all persons we had sex with, and became willing to make amends to them all
9. Outed such persons wherever possible,
10. Continued to take uppers and when we were high promptly admitted it
11. Sought through shopping and drag shows to improve our conscious contact with Madonna.
12. Having had a homosexual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other queers, and to practice being fabulous in all our affairs.
You know it's amazing that these days people can publicly say whatever the hell they want, crazy or hateful as it may be, and then afterwards say that oops, they didn't mean it. Then all is forgiven, right? Like the ex-Miami NBA player who said that he hates gay people. Later he apologized and said he didn't mean it. First, who cares what a basketball player thinks? Truly they are not the philosophers of our time. But why in the world of public statements does the "oops, sorry" erase everything? It's not like that in the real world.
You say to your wife, "you look really fat." Later saying you didn't mean it will not change the fact that you're not gettin' any for a long time. You say to your boss, "you're a real idiot." Later apologizing will not remove you from the unemployment line. You say to your cat that she sheds too much and then wonder if she understood you - it won't change that she's going to cough a hairball onto your head while you sleep.
My point is (somewhere) that people don't act or speak with integrity anymore. In a world where the government says one thing and does another and public figures flip out and claim alcoholism, who can believe anything anyone says?
Oh, and I didn't mean that about not caring what basketball players think. My mistake.

Update 2/17: "We removed him from representing us because we didn't think his comments were consistent with having anything to do with us." - commissioner David Stern, source Star Tribune
According to some engineers from Minnesota, 12 inches of snow weighs about 5lbs. That means I just removed about 1080lbs of snow from our deck. No wonder my back hurts...
Today at work I got to use the snow blower to clear our sidewalks - twice. That was such a blast. Then I shoveled and salted, and when my clothes were wet and I was cold as ice I went inside. Just as I put my shovel down, the plow company came through and plowed off the sidewalk.. nice...
It is not wise to store your soda in your garage when then temperature is very low. It is even less wise to open those cans while they are still frozen. As evidenced by the explosion that covered half the garage this evening, it can be quite messy.
However, frozen Orangeaid is quite tasty.

"Life without vision is drudgery. Vision without action is but an empty dream. Action guided by vision is joy and the hope of the earth." -Pat McHenry Sullivan |
It looked like a full moon... Today at work:
Power outage (twice), broken door, coffee machine went nuts, server issues, dishwasher broke, 7 dairy coolers heated to 80 degrees, furniture ripped apart, and someone tried to steal part of the building.
All in a day's work...
I suppose I don't have the time or energy right now to fully comment on how I feel about the funeral service. Suffice it to say that I was dismayed at the ... churchification. What should have been about a woman's life, her generosity, caring, witty, humerous self was turned into something else. It was not comforting. It was not genuine.
Thank goodness her daughter saved the day with her speech. It would have made her proud.
