Students are dumb.

I find this truly frightening. Being in an online classroom, I get to see my peers' work. I even get to comment on it – although I try to restrain myself. There are way too many college students who can't form sentences, can't spell, or use decent grammar. The spelling is inexcusable – don't they know what the little red squiggly lines are in Word? The grammar issues I can somewhat live with. I haven't had a grammar lesson since 3rd grade. But there are some basics that make things readable.

The part that really gets me is the inability to form sentences with coherent thoughts. Maybe some people figure since they're online in a classroom they can use “IM speak.” You know, the “how R U?” stuff...

freak car dealer?

Am I the only one shopping for a car at a dealership that doesn't want to sell a car? At least that's how it seems.
I've been researching a new vehicle for about a month now. Finally decided on one, went to a few dealers, and picked the one that seemed to want to screw me the least on my trade. Maybe that was a bad thing to do? Although we signed paperwork saying that if they find me the blue one I'll buy it, they didn't seem to want to find one. When I found it for them, they haven't called back to say if they're going to get it. Maybe I'm missing something - I hope so. Perhaps Monday the call will come that I can go pick up my car. But in the meantime, I think I'm dealing with a freak dealership.

This latest snag in the story of a Navy officer who came out, was discharged for being gay, then recalled, and fired again almost makes me laugh. If it wasn't for the poor guy that's being discharged again, it would almost be humorous. Oh yeah, and then there's the fact that it's our military that's causing this debacle. Putting the gay issue aside for a moment, what would you think if your company hired someone, fired them, then hired them again, then fired them again? You'd think someone in management had a snail for a brain.
And we're entrusting these people to represent us and rebuild the nation of Iraq. Lord help us...

Degree #1 - done

A small milestone for me today. I just finished the last course of my Associates degree. Now on to the Bachelors!

Tonight was a fun one at work. I thought my store was burning down.
Well, it wasn't, but it smelled like it. A little while before closing one of my employees says he smells smoke. Indeed, there was a strong smell of smoke in the store. We searched all over the place to make sure nothing was on fire. I mean, you could smell the smoke, but there was no smoke.
After 45 minutes of due diligence making sure nothing was on fire I stepped out back to see if anything was amiss. Sure enough, someone in a neighborhood nearby was having a weenie roast, and the smell drifted into our air intake and made my whole store smell like we were roasting too...
   I love my job!
