membership CANCELED

As a person who works quite a bit with a non-profit organization, I can certainly understand when community organizations solicit money. Our group has even sent out a few of those mailers that offer a chance to donate to a good cause. But I have to say I find it very annoying when they sent things out that seem like they're from a collection agency or something.
I mean, when you open it up and it says something like, you need to renew your membership or else... C'mon! Are they going to send the volunteer sheriff out to get me? And is that supposed to make me want to give? So I haven't sent in my dues, now they're threatening to cancel my membership?
Since it seems they've spent last year's membership dues on mailing me more stuff about collecting my annual dues, maybe I'll just save them the time and money this year. In the meantime, my organizations' mailers will have a far friendlier tone.

Cheney as the fourth branch of government - now that's a scary thought. Not just because I find him too secretive, deceptive, and sometimes creepy, but because it represents and embodies everything I dislike about the current administration. Too often, it seems like they think they aren't accountable to the American people. This latest example demonstrates that they will make whatever excuses they think people will choke on, and go on their merry way. Even things that make little to no sense, they'll just plow forward with it like it's normal, as if that will make it so. The war in Iraq is as wildly unpopular as it has ever been, and the administration shows little reaction to the overwhelming polls showing Americans want us out of Iraq, or at least want some kind of strategy to make it less of a travesty. I have to wonder what it will take for Americans to wake up and realize that the current government doesn't really seem to represent anyone but themselves. I wonder when it will be too late... Maybe the fourth branch of government will just make it all better.

horizontal hail

So I got home today at 1pm or so having gotten up for work at 3am. I am not a morning person, and this is the 3rd early morning shift I've had this week. And I'm not sure how it is for you, but sometimes I have to make little promises to myself when I wake up in the morning. Such as, "ok, if I get up now I can take a nap in the afternoon when I get home..." It works sometimes.
Naptime. I lay down, my cat joins me, and we're ready for a mid-day cat nap. Wonderful! As I start to pass out, I hear rain. Ahhh.. peaceful. Then I hear louder rain. Oh well.. Then I hear tapping on the glass. Hmm.. Suddenly the roar is crazy and I'm ripped awake. Looking to the window to see what the heck is going on, I see pieces of ice flying sideways across the yard. Horizontal hail! My boyfriend is in the basement. My cat is laying on the bed going "I thought we were napping."
Later we notice that we have many leaves throughout the yard, and a branch was ripped from a tree in the front yard. Worse, our neighbor 3 houses down has a very large pine tree laying across his yard.

Odd thing is that just down the road, it looks like there wasn't even a storm. When they say localized storm, they mean someone got singled out!

Who you lookin' at?

an educated bigot

The other evening something strange happened that had me rather confused at first. I was standing out in front of my garage talking on the phone with a friend when one of those old style VW buses comes driving by. This guy leaned out of the window of the bus and starting yelling at me at the top of his lungs. On top of that oddness, he was yelling things that included the word "faggot" and various other nasty things.
At that point I was like, what just happened? And further, how did he know?? I had to make my friend stop talking for a moment while I pondered. I was just standing there talking on the phone. Is it a gay thing to stand outside to talk on the phone? And it's not like I was outside doing a ballerina dance in my driveway.
Well, I fugured it out. Duh.. I was wearing this old shirt that I wear around the house... It's got paint and stains on it, and it's just one of those shirts you throw on while doing work around the yard and stuff. Well, amongst the antique white paint, there is a big rainbow triangle on it. He must have seen it. At least he was an educated bigot.

Good luck rain

Have you ever heard that it's good luck that it would rain as you drive a new (clean) car off the lot? That's what they told me anyway. Maybe so, but my car was dirty 10 minutes after I bought it...

I would just like to mention that it is 2007, and I am already sick of presidential politics. Isn't the "off year" designed to give us a chance to live without the political posturing and brouhaha? All that's left is for the TV spots to invade prime time, and I'd rather watch commercials about Summer's Eve.
There's two presidential debates coming up this week, and I'm just not interested. Put Bush on there though, and I'd watch.

A few more things not to say/do in an interview:
- put your head on a table for the whole interview
- take notes on the interviewer
- tell a story about the time you called a co-worker a bitch
- appear to not know what a schedule is
- tell the interviewer that you have never had a problem
- act like you should get the job simplu because you need one
