staying awake

| | Comments (0)
So I'm up at 3:30 in the morning having just finished a 3 day closing streak, and preparing for an overnight tomorrow.  I figured I'd better stay up tonight or I'll fall asleep in the middle of my shift tomorrow night.  In the meantime...

It appears that my trusty desktop PC is getting ready to bite the dust.  I think I built this one about 3 years ago.  I'm figuring it's time to wipe the drive and reinstall everything, but it's just such a pain.  I have everything set up just the way I want it, and I'll have to go back and reset everything.  That and I'm worried I'm going to lose some file that I saved forever ago that I might need.  (I'm an e-pack rat)  Thank goodness for the laptop! :)

I'm getting kinda tired of the political news.  Usually the junkie, I'm getting a little burned out.  I just want the March 4 primaries to be over so perhaps we can all move on.  Of course being here in Ohio with our "voting irregularities" we may not know the results of the vote for a few weeks.

Bush Library

I was just reading that they have chosen a site for W.'s presidential library.  (In itself I find it ironic).  It's going to be in one of Dallas's wealthiest neighborhoods.  Of course.  I just wonder what the librarians will say when you ask for the science section.  Will all the articles about global warming be blacked out?  Maybe the sign out front should just read "Ministry of Truth."

Telecom immunity 4ever?

Is it just me, or does this whole push for the telecom immunity portion of the FISA bill just scream 1984 to anyone?  Not only retroactive immunity, but immunity for the future too?  Does this not create a whole institution that becomes unaccountable to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights?  Oh wait, we already have one of those..  the administration.

And wasn't there a law previous to this bill that allowed the government to spy on people - as long as they got approval from an oversight court?  So now why are we less safe?  Now we are missing intelligence?  It seems we've been missing that since 2001...

Still got it.

I'm not much of a bar fly.  But in the past week I think I've been out more than I have in the past few months.  I went out tonight with my friend Tim to a little bar here in town and had a lovely time.  I even got hit on!  Tim went to the bar to get another drink, and no sooner than he got up but a young man had pulled up a chair right in front of me and started chatting with me.  Nice fellow.  Guess he missed the ring on the finger though.

You know, it's not like I would pursue something having been hit on - I am far too happy with my partner to stray.  But it's kinda like being carded.  Just a nice reminder that I still got it. :)

in October...

Having been watching the political coverage like a junkie for the past few weeks - I often think of odd things.  One such odd thing is how the last two elections were so handily won.  I have to wonder if the GOP will win again, and just how something like that could happen.  Is anyone else worried about some major military event or horrific news to be released just about mid to late-October?

president of where?

Just a minor pet peeve or "piss-off" if you will...
Why do presidential candidates always refer to their election to being President of the United States of America?  I mean, I just assumed that's the country they wanted to be president of - there was really no confusion.  Are there people out there who might think they're running for President of Venezuela or something?

February T-storms

We've been getting some crazy weather here the past few days.  Highs in the 50s and thunderstorms at night.  Right now we have a lovely thunderstorm going on with quite a light show.  Last night the vibrations from thunder knocked a candle (unlit) from a shelf.

Meanwhile, I am sitting up with my kitty who got home from the hospital this evening.

Senate Stimulus

Is it just me, or does a headline with the words "stimulus" and "senate" in it just strike you as..  odd? Ironic even?

Vomit Song

WHHAAAAAAAAWHAAAAAGRAAAAABWAAAAAA
*cough* *spit*
I was listening to some music on iTunes to see what new music is out there.  You know the 30 second clips?  So I click on this one, and I thought it was someone throwing up!  Apparently, someone is singing and it is music.  Interesting...  I had the flu once and I could have made a record.

fretting

Tomorrow my dear kitty is going in for a major surgery.  I am fretting about it, and will be until about noon tomorrow.  I may fret after that as well.  I think right now she's getting tired of me hanging around her...  no, she's pretty comfy laying next to me on the couch.  She's really one of the few creatures on earth who can stand me for long periods of time...

Update 2/4:  Kitty did well in surgery, and is recovering nicely. (to my great relief!)  I went to see her tonight, and she was out of her anesthesia stupor enough to recognize me, give me a nuzzle, and go back to sleep.  She should be coming home tomorrow.

CNN Debate

I'm watching the re-run of the democratic debate last night.  Wolf just can't get over the fact that he can't get Obama to attack Clinton about immigration.  He's asking over again rewording the question, and Obama even pointed out that he's trying to get him to say something nasty.  Oh, that would boost the ratings and give the media something to talk about.  It's a shame that the dems are having a decent debate, and Wolf Springer just seems to want to get them to go at each other.  I understand asking "the difficult questions," but I think this another example of our broken media.  Hmm.. is it really government and politics that divides the American people?

Did anyone else notice that after the nasty-free debate, some of the pundits seemed like they were just beside themselves with little to say?  I saw one stuttering, and for a moment I felt bad for her.
