April 2008 Archives

In an ongoing tradition, several of the most snarky queer cinema critics got together for a makeshift film festival once again in Toronto, Kansas. Indeed they were the only 4 queer folks in one room for at least a hundred miles (and there were lights too!). For four evenings they perused some interesting films...
The films:
A Very Serious Person – 4.5 stars
Sordid Lives – 5 stars
Boys Love – 2 stars
Running with Scissors – 3 and a half stars, and half a crazy star

vacation flies

As in time flies, not fruit flies.  I swear it was just Thursday and we just arrived.  Alas, we are leaving tomorrow.  We've had a lovely time.  Yesterday we did a bunch of geocaching all around Yates Center and Iola, Kansas.  We even placed a new one in Toronto, KS.  Today we visited Courtney at her restaurant - she's doing well besides missing her voice a bit.  Got to see the new cabins down at Toronto Point - might have to stay there sometime.  It's all good.  Gotta run...

It's warm, the frogs are back in our pond, and they are noisy! (read: horny)

To celebrate being over a month (37 days) smoke-free, I present you with this disgusting picture.  See, I am outgrowing my dirty habit.

I'm so mad I could...

...rip off my shirt?  Well, it's not the first thing I do when I get upset, but a customer at my store did just that.  He got so mad about his return that he threw it on the ground breaking it into pieces.  The he stalked off while at the same time tore his shirt off!  I don't think I've ever seen that happen in all my years of retail.
And he wasn't even good looking....

Head in the window

This morning I awoke, opened my blinds, and there was a head in the window.  I went out to the living room where the blinds were already open, and what do you know - another head in the window.  Apparently the landscapers were back putting out mulch and such...  but it was kinda creepy they were all in the back of the house right by the windows at the same time.  And just as I woke up too while I was still disoriented...  I thought I was a peep show for a minute.

Spring is in the noise

| | Comments (0)
Today was one of those first real days of Spring when you can go outside, smell the fresh spring air, get your hands in the dirt, and .. hear open pipes on about fifty motorcycles.  Really, I'm sure it must be great to get a bike out of the garage.  I myself would be interested in trying out a bike.  But why is it that they have to be deafening loud?  I know they should be louder then cars so you know they're there, but when they sound like a jet engine coming down the road shaking the house it kinda unnerves me.  If my car did that I'd get a ticket...

Rhodes off the air

| | Comments (1)
I was listening briefly to Air America Radio on the way home from work tonight and I heard something interesting.  Apparently Randi Rhodes has been taken off the air for making abusive and obscene comments about Clinton and Ferraro.  (I read she called them f-ing whores)  I listened to Rhodes for awhile, but quickly grew sick of her ranting comments that often seem to go off course and exaggerate issues.  I remember one time listening to her talk about someone on the air and just going on and on, comparing them to a Nazi and blah blah blah.  She's often mean to or simply drowns out her callers. I thought to myself, she's kinda like an Ann Coulter of the left.  Well, now unfortunately for her she's paid a price for that.  And Mike Malloy did her no good service tonight calling a listener a god damn freak for defending Clinton.

You know I think a lot of people are sick of divisive politics.  I'm sick of them coming from the right, and now I'm sick of them coming from the left.  I have no problem with either side defending their positions or people, but let's all act like adults, can't we?  Or can we?

I hope Rachel Maddow isn't getting sucked into this crap.  She's the one redeeming person I listen to on Air America at all anymore...

Feed the wolf

| | Comments (0)
I saw this over on QuitNet.com in the forums and liked the message.

"One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, `My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.`

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: `Which wolf wins?`

The old Cherokee simply replied, `The one you feed.`
